The table below lists species in Aegilops, Amblyopyrum, and Triticum based on their genomic constitution. Species are listed under all their genomes, thus T. aestivum is listed in each of the B, A, and D genome groups. At least, that is how it will be evenutally..
The names listed in the first column are either those used in the reference cited or those used in the original synopsis prepared for the Triticeae Consortium (Wang et al. 1996). The second column indicates the correct name according to van Slageren 1994. This table cannot resolve all taxonomic controversies; its primary function is to summarize what has been reported concerning genomes in the Triticeae. It will show taxonomic differences of opinion to the extent feasible. If there is no comment in the last column, the name in the second column should be used unles, as some taxonomists recomment (e.g, Yen et al. 2005), you prefer to treat all these species in an expanded Triticum. Those names will be added, one day.
The Genome Designation Committeerecommended that the present in the cytoplasm be underlined. On the other hand, plant breeders are expected to list the female parent first. These two conventions are not in conflict so I shall, eventually, convert this table so that both conventions are followed.| Frequently used names in older literature | Current NamesBased on van Slageren (Aegilops) or Waines & Barnhart (Triticum) |
